Norwegian Air beats profit estimates boosted by strong summer

STORY: :: Norwegian Air Carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle beat market expectations for its third-quarter earnings on Wednesday. It was boosted by higher summer demand across its markets. The budget airline said its quarterly operating profit was the highest in its history. It jumped 41% year-on-year to $300.7 million in the July-September quarter, well above analyst forecasts. Norwegian's unit costs — which is the average cost of flying an aircraft seat — fell 5% from a year earlier. The airline said it was able to counter that financial pressure thanks to initiatives in its cost-cutting program. As well as the strengthening of the Norwegian crown against the U.S. dollar. Meanwhile its CEO told Reuters recent drone sightings and air incursions in Norway and Denmark were "definitely" having an impact on cancellations and revenue loss. The airline industry is slowly recovering from the pandemic-induced slump but still faces rising costs.
