Why European small caps are worth screening
Lower analyst coverage = more mispricings
European small caps below €500M market cap are followed by fewer than 3 analysts on average. Many are covered only by their domestic brokers. Information inefficiency is structural, not incidental.
Family-controlled businesses align incentives
A large proportion of European small caps are majority-controlled by founding families or long-term owners. Management incentives are aligned with long-term value creation, not quarterly earnings beats.
CEE markets trade at persistent discounts
Polish, Hungarian, Romanian, and Baltic small caps carry emerging-market risk premia despite EU membership and governance standards comparable to Western Europe. The discount is structural, not fundamental.
Nordic First North — quality at small scale
Sweden's First North Growth Market lists hundreds of companies with international B2B revenues, growing organic earnings, and modest valuations. These are globally competitive businesses, not speculative startups.
Liquidity constraints create opportunity
Institutional investors cannot build meaningful positions in companies below €100M market cap without moving the price. This forces them to ignore the entire segment — leaving it to patient individual investors.

Open screenerHow to screen European small caps
1. Set your market cap range
Use the market cap filter to define your small cap universe. €50M–€500M covers microcap to small cap. €500M–€2B covers the mid cap range. Adjust based on your liquidity requirements.
2. Select specific exchanges
Focus on markets you understand or want to add exposure to. GPW for Central European value, Nordic exchanges for quality, Euronext for diversified European coverage.
3. Apply quality filters
ROE above 8% and positive profit margin filters out companies with weak underlying economics. Adding debt/equity below 1 removes heavily leveraged names.
4. Layer in valuation
P/E, P/B, and EV/EBITDA filters surface companies at relative valuation discounts within your quality-screened universe. Sort by P/B or EV/EBITDA ascending to find the cheapest.
5. Check dividend yield
Setting a minimum dividend yield (1.5–2%) filters for companies that generate enough free cash flow to return capital — a proxy for business quality in small caps.
Common questions
What counts as a "small cap" in European markets?
Definitions vary. A common European small cap range is €100M–€2B market capitalisation. Below €100M is typically considered microcap. ScreenerHero lets you define any market cap range using the min/max filters.
Does ScreenerHero cover First North and other alternative markets?
Yes — Nasdaq First North (Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki), Euronext Growth (Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam), and NewConnect (Warsaw) are all included. These alternative markets list the most active small cap and growth companies in their respective countries.
How reliable is fundamental data for small cap stocks?
Data coverage is lower for smaller companies. Revenue, gross profit, and basic balance sheet data is available for most listed companies. More complex metrics (EV/EBITDA, free cash flow) may have gaps for the smallest and least liquid names. ScreenerHero marks missing data explicitly rather than imputing it.
Can I sort by multiple columns?
Yes — ScreenerHero supports multi-column sorting. Sort primarily by EV/EBITDA, then secondarily by ROE, for example. Add up to three sort levels from the screener column headers.
What's the difference between this page and selecting small cap exchanges individually?
This page opens the screener pre-filtered for small cap market cap range across all European exchanges. You can then narrow to specific countries or sectors on top. Country-specific pages like /screener/germany pre-filter by exchange instead.
